Costa Cobras Club de Rugby was founded in July 2017 by a bunch of enthusiastic Brits and if the truth be known had played their best rugby years ago but still wanted to be involved and educate this part of Alicante with a bit of rugby culture.
Our original home ground was a 4G pitch in San Fulgencio, which is not a rugby pitch and had to be shared with the football club. As it is in Spain, football is a massive thing so our only day we could play was a Sunday, as a Saturday was always a full venue for the football teams.
In October 2018, we were offered the sand pitch in La Marina village, the Campo de Fútbol, thus we dropped the name SF Costa Cobras and are now known as the Costa Cobras. We will be eternally grateful to San Fulgencio council for letting us share the pitch with the football, but are now equally grateful too Elche sports council for letting us have the ground at La Marina. Between them and us we are working tirelessly to get the pitch up and running properly.
The Costa Cobras have always aimed to be a club for the local community and the fact that we are attracting so many youngsters to the game is very positive, especially now we have women involved. Our senior team are a mixture of English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh and Spanish along with our coaching staff have a pedigree second to none.
